Senior Victim Services - Information

If you are the victim of a crime - or suspect you may be - call 911 immediately. The prompt and accurate reporting of every crime to police is of the utmost importance. You must report a crime to police within 72 hours to be eligible for Pennsylvania Crime Victims Compensation. Once you have notified the police and are safe call Senior Victim Services at (610) 627-2292. A staff member will assist you with the aftermath of being victimized and support you through the criminal justice system.

It's not uncommon to feel embarrassed at becoming the victim of a crime. Some people may also feel reluctant to report a crime because they believe they may be "bothering" the police unnecessarily. A police report is essential to your receiving the protection and assistance you are entitled to.

In Pennsylvania the rights of crime victims are protected by the Victim Bill of Rights:

	To receive basic information concerning services to assist you
	To be notified of the progress of your case including whether the suspect has been arrested, whether he has been transferred, released or has escaped from prison, and to be notified if the defendant has been transferred from prison to a mental health facility
	To make a statement to the prosecutor's office before charges against the defendant are dropped or reduced or the plea is changed
	To offer a victim impact statement for the judge's consideration before sentencing
	To recover your financial losses, to the extent possible, through restitution, Victims Compensation and the return of property which was seized as evidence when it is no longer needed by the prosecutor
